Experienced and Licensed Counselor in San Antonio, Texas
Prior to working as a counselor, I worked in public education as a teacher and administrator. During that phase of my career, I worked with children, adolescents, and adults, assisting them in setting and achieving goals. While caring for aging parents, my career redirected to working with persons with end-of-life issues, diagnoses of life limiting illnesses, grief and loss, life-transitions, and trauma.
My experience as an educator is an asset for counseling individuals, families, or groups. I have experienced the challenges of being a sandwich generation caregiver while caring for aging parents. As a family therapist, I can assist families when the family system is out of balance with a life transition, the diagnosis of a life-limiting illness, or death.
Life transitions, at times, are stressful and can trigger negative emotions, which impact self-esteem, self-identity, and coping skills. Working through the challenges that life has given me will assist me in being an effective therapist.
As a life-long learner, I have chosen to expand my knowledge and to network with other counselors. I am a member of the Texas Counseling Association (TCA), Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapists (TAMFT), and the Association of Death Educators and Counselors (ADEC). I have a certified Fellow in Thanatologist (FT) certification (CT) through the Association of Death Educators and Counselors. I am certified as a Fellow in Thanatologist (FT) through the Association for Death Educations and Counselors.
